Cancelled Workouts

A reminder that all CPWD swim workouts are cancelled Saturday, May 19th and Monday, May 21st, 2012 due to the holiday weekend.

We are still in need of volunteers to manage the sale of t-shirts and heat sheets during Long Course Regionals which is held June 1-3, 2012 at the Nepean Sportsplex. This is a perfect opportunity for those needing to earn points towards their volunteer commitment with the Water Dragons. Students needing community service hours are also welcomed. Please contact our President, Nathaly Houston or see the sign-up sheet on the CPWD bulletin board.

Wishing everyone a safe and wonderful weekend.

CPWD Volunteers Required

Session Times

As the swim season is quickly coming to an end and with very few opportunities left to volunteer, we are inviting parents to earn some points towards your volunteer commitment.

Our club has been appointed to manage the sale of heat sheets and t-shirts at this year’s EOSA Long Course Regional Championship Meet (June 1-3, 2012) which is being held at the Nepean Sportsplex. This will be conducted with a team of 2 people per 4 hour session earning 5 points per session. This three day meet will require up to 6 volunteers per day. This is also an opportunity for students requiring community service hours to earn some time. See the attached document for available times.

To volunteer contact Nathaly Houston or sign up on the CPWD bulletin board.

Our Officials need us and without them we would not have meets!

SWOTT Meet Important Update

Below is a message from the SWOTT meet management to CPWD’s participants
Dave.
Dear Officials, Volunteers and Swim Ottawa members:

A few final items before this Sunday’s Capital Classic Qualifier meet:

1) Officials, please bring a water bottle (we are going green).

2) Parking: Carleton University appears to be at the center of many activities this weekend:

The means two things:

  • Getting to Carleton may be more difficult than usual
  • Parking may be more difficult, and you may need to use lots further from the pool.

Parking Information can be found on Carleton’s Parking page, including a handy parking map. Weekend rate is $2, all day.

You may want to consider using the O-Train and the Greenboro Park and Ride (600 spots, map). Regular fare is $3.30 Cash, or 2 tickets. Or, you could try the  $7.75 DayPass (which will cover 2 adults and up to four children under 12.)

If you need any further information about the meet (psych sheets, officials grids, etc…), please see the Swim Ottawa home page.

Thank you again for participating in the SWOTT Capital Classic Qualifier,

Swim Ottawa Meet Management

SWOTT Meet Entries and Year End Awards‏‏

SWOTT Meet

SWOTT meet management has indicated a problem with the “overwhelming response” to their meet.
They had a hard choice to make and elected to allow all teams to participate, but reduce the maximum number of events to 3 per person.
In addition, they have requested that longer distance events (200m+) be the events targeted.
Should reducing the maximum number of events not reduce the meet timeline sufficiently, they must take further measures.

This affects a large number of CPWD’s entries. Due to the short response time required by SWOTT meet management, I have examined the entries and have proposed changes. The proposed changes are attached.

Guidelines used:
- Qualifying events for EOSA Championships or the Montreal meets cannot be dropped.
- An event which can be swum at EOSA championships will be dropped (assuming swimmer is currently qualified to attend)
- Longer events are the first to be considered for dropping.
- Any event entered, but dropped due to meet management’s request, will be counted as a PB.
- Refunds will be given for all dropped events.

The modifications to CPWD’s event list will be sent to SWOTT meet management on Friday April 27, 2012. Should anyone wish an alternate change, they have until the entries are sent to contact me at: d.anderson2@sympatico.ca
Note: Do not “reply” to this e-mail. It may not reach me in time.

Entry Changes

YEAR END AWARDS
Change happens, sometimes without warning. To move forward we must be flexible and adapt.

Due to changes in the meets, both before and after entries were submitted, a number of swimmers will be short on their Personal Best requirement for the year end award. At CPWD a precedent was set a number of years ago regarding this situation.
In effect:
- The event requirements will not be altered.
- Should a swimmer be one event short, that person may request to be timed for that event (by the head coach) during a workout.
- If the workout timed event is a personal best, it will count toward the Year End Award and be recorded.
- The workout timed event cannot be used as a qualification time for meets.
- The cut off date is one week after the last official CPWD meet. In this case the cut off date is May 12, 2012.
