Swim Levels

Blue Fireflies (Non-competitive)
This is where all the fun begins. This is a non-competitive group typically between the ages of 6 to 11. Pre-requisite for the swimmer is the ability to swim 12.5m (half the pool length). Goals of this group are focused on introduction to basic movement in Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke. This group swims a half hour class once per week and the season is divided into 3 sessions; fall, winter and spring.

Yellow Fireflies (Non-competitive)
And the fun continues. Swimmers have moved up from Blue Fireflies and/ or have the ability to swim 25m Freestyle (length of the pool). Also noncompetitive and age range typically from 8 to 11. Goals of this group are focused on basic swimming skills in Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and introduction to the Butterfly. This group swims two 30 minute classes per week and the season is divided into 3 sessions; fall, winter and spring.

Silver Dragons (Non-competitive)
The next step for swimmers. Fresh out of Yellow Fireflies and/or the ability to swim 25m Freestyle PLUS 25m of any other stroke. Ages typically between 8 and 12. Goals of this group are refinement of swimming skills and basic starts and turns. The swimmer has the option to participate in one competitive meet during the year (not session). This group meets for two 45 minute classes per week and the season is divided into 3 sessions; fall, winter and spring.

Red Dragons (Non-competitive)
Swimmers in this group typically between ages 8 to 12 have displayed good swimming technique in previous groups and/or have the ability to swim 50m Freestyle PLUS 50m of any other stroke. Goals of this group are refinement of swimming skills and basic starts and turns. The swimmer has the option to participate in one competitive meet during the year (not session). This group meets for three 45 minute classes per week and the season is divided into 3 sessions; fall, winter and spring.

Junior (Competitive)
Now into the world of competitive swimming! Typically between the ages of 9 and 12. The swimmer must have the ability to swim 25m of each of the 4 strokes non stop (100 IM). In this group the swimmer has the option to participate in any meet for which they qualify that CPWD attends. This group swims three 1 hour practices per week (minimum 2 practices recommended) and runs from September to June. Goals of this group are enrichment of swimming skills, refinement of starts and turns and basic competition strategies.

Intermediate (Competitive)
Becoming more versed in the world of competitive swimming. Typically between the ages of 10 and 13. The swimmer must have the ability to swim 50m of each of the 4 strokes non stop (200 IM). In this group the swimmer has the option to participate in any meet for which they qualify that CPWD attends. This group swims four 1 hour practices per week (minimum 3 practices recommended) and runs from September to June. Goals of this group are enrichment of swimming skills, refinement of starts and turns and basic competition strategies.

Senior (Competitive)
The elite of competitive swimmers! Typically between the ages of 11 and 20. The swimmers in this group have been invited by the coach based on their abilities. In this group the swimmer has the option to participate in any meet for which they qualify that CPWD attends. This group swims eight 1 to 1.5 hour practices per week (minimum 5 practices recommended for 12 and under, 7 practices for 13 and over) and runs from September to June. Goals of this group are advanced skills instruction and racing strategies.
